Sir,
We solicit your assistance in a matter of much importance to us, and briefly review the facts in the case as follows:-
On March 13th, 1916, we received an order from Messrs. Handelsvereenging Voorheen J. Mohrmann & Co., Macassar, Celebes Islands.
This house had always been considered by us as of Dutch origin, which all records seem to confirm, and having done business with them for some years past, we naturally had no hesitation in executing their order.
The Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation (a British concern) accepted our drafts covering this merchandise, and the Toyo Kisen Kaisha Steamship Co. (a Japanese Corporation) carried the goods to Hongkong, where in the ordinary course of events it would be trans-shipped to Macassar.
No objections were raised by either of these institutions at the time shipment went forward, and you may possibly imagine our surprise when we received advice from our Hongkong office that the cargo had been held at that port, due to our customers having been blacklisted.
